Residents queue overnight for Bangkok flood relief payments

BANGKOK — Residents queued outside district offices from late at night and before dawn to register for flood relief payments, with one Bangkok district reportedly reaching its daily limit by 06:30.

At Lat Krabang District Office, a post in the “Lat Krabang Incidents” Facebook group said all 600 registration slots had been filled by 06:30. Residents planning to visit were urged to check for updates before travelling to avoid wasting time and money.

In Saimai district, residents also began lining up outside the district office shortly after midnight.

A social media post reported that the first person had arrived to queue at 00:20, with more people continuing to turn up. Another update at 02:53 said the queue had reached number 436.

By 03:52, a resident waiting to register reported that more than 570 queue numbers had already been taken, with the crowd continuing to grow. The poster estimated that the district’s quota of 1,000 registrations could be filled between 05:00 and 06:00.

Residents were advised to bring paper and pens to write down their names and something to hold the paper in place while recording their queue details.

The long queues reflect strong demand for flood relief registration in the capital, with residents arriving hours before district offices begin their daily services.
