Could Manqoba Mngqithi replace Fernando Cruz at Chiefs?

Translate

Manqoba Mngqithi has been shown the door by Young Africans but will he end up joining Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs?

The 55-year-old was linked to the Amakhosi job several times during his tenure at Mamelodi Sundowns.

On Saturday, Yanga sacked the former Golden Arrows, leaving him back in the market.

Chiefs have Fernando Da Cruz as head coach but his future will depend on how he turns the corner at the club. On Friday, he watched his team crash out of the CAF Confederation Cup in the preliminary stages.

Amakhosi sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr assured that the coach’s job is safe.

“As a Club, we would like to reaffirm our full support for, and confidence in, the Head Coach and the entire technical team,” the statement read.

“They continue to have our trust as they lead the implementation of a football philosophy and development pathway that we firmly believe will bring sustainable success.

Mngqithi could still join Chiefs

“Their professionalism, work ethic, and commitment to improving the team every day remain irreproachable,” Chiefs said.

“The team is fighting hard every game to uphold a high standard of performance, and yesterday, despite the result and the injuries we carry, that warrior spirit was visible on the field.”

If Da Cruz fails to beat TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Cup and then losses the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates, Chiefs might pull the plug and open the door for Mngqithi.

Should Chiefs sack Da Cruz or keep him until the end of the season?
