‘Paddington The Musical’ Extends London West End Run Through June 2028

Paddington The Musical in London’s West End has extended its very popular run until June 25, 2028, a move producers say was prompted by unprecedented ticket demand at the Savoy Theatre where the bear took up residence a year ago.

The musical recently scored an impressive seven wins at the 2026 Olivier Awards, trophies for Best New Musical, Best Director for Luke Sheppard and Best Actor in a musical for James Hameed and Arti Shah, who jointly portray Paddington. Those awards add to Paddington‘s growing collection of accolades, which also includes critics awards.

The London extension isn’t expected to interfere with producers’ plans to stage Paddington on Broadway in March of 2027 at the at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. A Sydney staging at the Capitol Theatre is planned for September 2027.

This past June, producers announced that Paddington The Musical would begin previews at Broadway’s Hirschfeld on Tuesday, March 30, 2027, with an official opening on Sunday, April 18

Here’s the official synopsis: “When a small, lost bear from Peru arrives in London in search of a new home, a chance encounter with the Brown family leads him to the wonderful world of Windsor Gardens. But London isn’t all afternoon teas and friendly faces – and even the happiest families have their cracks beneath the surface. So when a mysterious and vengeful villain sets her sights on Paddington, the Browns embark on a thrilling rescue mission, realizing they need this special bear as much as he needs them.”

Based on characters from Michael Bond’s books, with a story inspired by the award-winning 2014 Paddington film, the stage musical, by special arrangement with Studiocanal, features music and lyrics by Tom Fletcher, a book by Jessica Swale and direction by Luke Sheppard. Producers are Sonia Friedman Productions, Studiocanal and Eliza Lumley Productions on behalf of Universal Music UK.
