MELAKA: Police personnel have been reminded to maintain professionalism, integrity and discipline while carrying out their duties during the Melaka election.

Melaka police said in a statement that the reminder was conveyed by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail during a working visit to the state police contingent yesterday to check preparations and the force's readiness for the polls.

The statement said Khalid's address also covered operational preparations, security management and the responsibilities of every officer and personnel in ensuring the smooth conduct of the election.

"He (Khalid) stressed that all police personnel must ensure their actions comply with the law and established standard operating procedures (SOPs).

"They were also reminded to safeguard the confidentiality of official information, strengthen esprit de corps and adhere to the chain of command and control to ensure the effectiveness of every assignment," the statement posted on the Melaka police Facebook page said.

Melaka police said Khalid also emphasised the welfare, safety, and physical and mental well-being of officers and personnel in his address.

Supervising officers were also reminded to pay close attention to the needs and welfare of personnel under their supervision to ensure their motivation and commitment remained at the highest level while carrying out their duties.

After delivering his address, Khalid visited the Melaka election operations room to obtain a closer look at operational preparations and the coordination mechanisms put in place for the polls next Saturday.

He was also briefed on the current security situation, developments involving local issues and the contingent's strategic plans to maintain public order and safeguard community safety throughout the election period.

Khalid also stressed that the success of the police operation during the Melaka election would depend on the unity, discipline and readiness of all police personnel to ensure the polls were conducted peacefully and in an orderly manner.
