Jigawa people will suffer if PDP loses 2027 polls – Chieftain

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Jigawa State, Umar Danjani, has warned that the people of the state could face four years of hardship and regret if the party fails to win the 2027 general elections.
Danjani argued that the party’s candidates possessed the experience, qualifications, and political pedigree needed to restore the state’s dignity and accelerate its development.
The warning came amid heightened political activities and preparations for the 2027 general elections, with political parties and their candidates stepping up efforts to convince voters of their capacity to deliver good governance.
Danjani, the immediate past PDP State Deputy Chairman and the party’s candidate for the Hadejia/Auyo/Kafin-Hausa Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, made the remarks in Hausa in a post on his Facebook account on Tuesday.
He argued that the consequences of the PDP losing the governorship election would extend beyond the party’s candidates to affect the entire population of Jigawa State.
“Even if a governorship election is conducted today and the PDP fails to win, it will not be the party’s candidates alone who will suffer. The people of Jigawa State will be the ones to pay the price, enduring four years of regret,” Danjani stated.
The PDP candidate praised the party’s national and regional leader, Sule Lamido, describing him as one of the most committed politicians in Northern Nigeria and arguing that few contemporary political leaders could match his concern for the welfare of the people.
According to Danjani, Lamido’s political ideas, commitment to public service, and record of governance distinguished him from other politicians in the region.
He further described the former Jigawa governor as “The most outstanding performing governor in Northern Nigeria during his tenure,” crediting him with elevating the state’s image and recognition nationally and internationally.
Danjani maintained that the achievements associated with Lamido’s administration had established a standard of governance that subsequent political leaders had struggled to match, adding that his contributions remained significant to Jigawa’s political history.
Highlighting the PDP’s leadership structure, the federal constituency candidate said the party had experienced and qualified figures capable of providing effective leadership.
He pointed to the presence of former members of the state legislature, former commissioners and individuals with doctoral qualifications among its political leaders.

Danjani also cited the background of the state party’s Director-General of Campaign, describing him as “an experienced political activist, businessman, former member of the Jigawa State House of Assembly and former permanent secretary, whose experience could strengthen the party’s campaign organisation.”
He said the PDP’s governorship candidate was equally qualified for the position, describing him as “a traditional ruler, businessman and political heir who had obtained three degrees in political studies.”
He also portrayed the candidate as a young, modern politician with considerable popularity among the electorate.
On the party’s deputy governorship candidate, Danjani said his extensive experience in public service had taken him to the highest level of the state’s civil service, culminating in his appointment as Head of the Jigawa State Civil Service.
Danjani also highlighted the credentials of the party’s senatorial candidate for Jigawa South-West, Sulaiman Abba, whom he described as a former senior police officer who rose through the ranks of the Nigeria Police Force to become an Inspector-General of Police.
He presented Abba’s experience as evidence of the quality of individuals associated with the party.
The PDP chieftain also claimed that the party had a unique advantage in legislative experience, arguing that it was the only party in Nigeria fielding three candidates who had each served as Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly.
Speaking about his own political experience, Danjani said, “Despite being among the younger contestants, I believe my record of political engagement, public service and personal relationships distinguishes me from my opponents.”
He added that “My political journey included serving as a state party deputy chairman, a position I attributed to my ability to relate effectively with people, as well as participating in efforts to secure the release of oppressed individuals from prison.”
Danjani, who also described himself as coming from a family with a strong political heritage, concluded that a PDP victory in the 2027 elections would represent more than a partisan achievement.
“PDP victory would offer Jigawa residents an opportunity to regain their dignity, pride and confidence in the state’s future,” he argued.
He therefore urged voters to consider the experience and qualifications of the party’s candidates when making their electoral choices.
