Catholic School Dance Team Wreaks Havoc in First Trailer for Netflix’s Raunchy Psychodrama ‘The Body’

“Can a person really contact the devil? How would you know he’s around?” — that’s the question that kicks off the trailer for Netflix‘s upcoming Catholic school-set series, The Body.

The streamer dropped the first trailer for the teen psychodrama Monday. The eight-episode show, which follows a dance troupe at a Catholic school, was created by Quinn Shephard.

The creator has said the show is a love letter to ‘90s and Y2K teen movies like Carrie and Jennifer’s Body. Kristina Bogic, Sara Boustany, Geena Meszaros, Nnamdi Asomugha, Louisa Krause, Shirley Chen, Jackson Kelly, Sofia Wylie and The Traitors alum Gabby Windey star in the series.

Monday’s trailer features haunting music over a deluge of debauchery, dance and suspected demonic possession. The Body’s logline reads, “After a dance-team initiation gone wrong, a group of badly behaved Catholic school girls begin having prophetic visions that set off mass hysteria in their town.”

Shephard previously told Netflix’s Tudum that she’s “always been interested in the idea of girlhood as a religious experience.” She added, “This story is definitely my way of putting a playful spin on all the nightmares of my own teenage-dom. Tonally, I would describe the show as gritty camp. It’s a raunchy teen psychodrama with a dash of Catholic horror.”

Kyra Pierce, Phallon Pierce, Marcel Ruiz, Orlando Norman, Ashley Madekwe, Motell Foster, Cale Ambrozic, Anna Tierney, Chloe Longname, Sarah Abbott, Emily Roman, Michela Luci, Bella Neuspiel, Julia Lowe and Christine Solomon round out the cast.

Shephard serves as showrunner and directed the first episode. Executive producers include Peter Chernin, Amy Israel and Josh Stern for North Road; Riley Keough, Gina Gammell and Sacha Ben Harroche for Felix Culpa; and Blair Breard.
