D Cryme calls for museum, podcast studio to honour Dr Duncan

Ghanaian musician D Cryme has called on music industry stakeholders to celebrate broadcaster Dr Duncan for his role in projecting several musicians through his Kasahare Level show on Adom FM in the 2000s.

Speaking to arts and culture journalist Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, D Cryme outlined several ways the industry could honour Dr Duncan for his contribution to music.

“Dr Duncan does not only deserve a statue, but he deserves a super big monumented museum. While he is alive, he deserves all the accolades and appreciation. That is why I mention him wherever I go,” he said.

D Cryme said musicians who benefited from the platform Dr Duncan provided should not wait until his death before speaking about his impact on their careers and the music industry.

“This is what I want to see him do; if things come and it’s proper, I would rather create a nice podcast for him. Podcast is the way. He still has something in him. It’s just like a solid young but grandpa in the house,” he added.

He also noted that others who shared his vision could join forces with him to make the proposed project a reality.

“It’s something that I tell my friends and industry colleagues. It’s something I have been trumpeting. I try to let them know that maybe I might have the means but it is not one man fight or one man projection. That clearly tells you that you also have equally something extra to spare. We can pull our resources together. We can make this happen,” D Cryme said.

Dr Duncan’s Kasahare Level on Adom FM became a platform for aspiring musicians, particularly rappers, to showcase their lyrical skills and gain exposure in the Ghanaian music industry during the 2000s. The programme helped bring emerging talents before a wider audience at a time when radio airplay was an important route to recognition.

Several musicians have been associated with the programme’s influence, including D Cryme and other artistes who built their profiles through radio exposure and the hiplife scene.

The programme served as a launchpad for artistes such as Sarkodie, Yaa Pono, Pope Skinny, Shakoma, Stonebwoy, D Cryme, Criss Waddle, Yaw Siki, Edem, Guru, Kwaw Kese, Kofi Korea, and others, several of whom later established themselves in Ghana’s music industry.
