Mayo and Da Silva out, Kaizer Chiefs relying on Godspower

Translate

Kaizer Chiefs have two strikers out due to injury and at times, they were forced to play without strikers.

In recent weeks, coach Fernando Da Cruz has brought in Nigeria striker Etiosa Ighodaro.

The 25-year-old is yet to find the net this season, having returned fron an injury. In the few matches he’s played, the forward, who’s middle name is Godspower, has shown promise and is expected to start most games until Khanyisa Mayo and Flavio Silva return.

Against Polokwane City, Ighodaro has a decent game but failed to find the back of the net.

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye felt the striker had an impact but lacked the skills to bring something different to the team.

“A striker can put in a solid performance without scoring goals. Ighodaro put in a performance that says he wants to start the next game.

“But as a striker, you must be able to make space for yourself. You must be skilful, take somebody on and take a shot.

“For me, if there was a better striker, they would release Ighodaro because there’s not much that he is adding at Kaizer Chiefs.”

Amakhosi‘s last match was a 1-1 draw against Polokwane City. The draw saw them drop to fourth in the Betway Premiership after six matches played.

Can Kaizer Chiefs still challenge for the league?

So far, the Glamour Boys are eight points behind Mamelodi Sundowns but have two games in hand. A further drop in points could see their league ambitions coming to an end early in the season.
