EgyptAir Adds Direct Flights Between Cairo and Birmingham

Translate

EgyptAir has expanded its UK network with the launch of direct flights between Cairo and Birmingham on Sunday, 25 October, giving travellers another option for flying between Egypt and the United Kingdom.

Birmingham is the airline’s third destination in the UK, joining London and Manchester. The new service operates four times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays, using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

The route also provides passengers travelling beyond Egypt with connections through Cairo International Airport to destinations across Africa, the Middle East, and the Far East.

EgyptAir Holding Company Chairman and CEO Ahmed Adel said the addition forms part of the airline’s efforts to expand its international network and respond to passenger demand.

Mohamed Elyan, chairman and CEO of EgyptAir Airlines, highlighted Birmingham’s role as an economic and industrial centre in central England, saying the route would serve business and tourism travellers as well as Egyptians living in the Midlands who wish to visit family and friends in Egypt.

Matt Hazelwood, chief commercial officer at Birmingham Airport, also welcomed the new service, pointing to its potential to support travel between the two cities and attract visitors interested in Cairo’s cultural and historical attractions.

The first flight was marked by celebrations onboard, while Birmingham Airport hosted a reception for the launch attended by representatives from the airport and the airline.

The new route follows an agreement between EgyptAir and Birmingham Airport signed on the sidelines of the El Alamein International Airshow.

It also adds to the airline’s recent network expansion. EgyptAir began operating flights to Manchester following its route announcement in June 2023 and added Zanzibar to its African network in September 2026. The airline is also expanding its fleet, having received its first Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in May as part of a leasing agreement for 18 aircraft with SMBC Aviation Capital.
