Cagayan de Oro buy-bust yields P6.8-M alleged shabu

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Police seized around a kilogram of suspected shabu worth P6.8 million and arrested a high-value suspect in a sting operation in Barangay Indahag here late Saturday afternoon.

The joint operation, led by the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit 10 (RPDEU-10) in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), took place at 5:01 p.m. in Sitio Kamakawan.

Authorities arrested a 40-year-old unemployed suspect identified only as alias “Bebe.”

A second suspect, identified as alias “Abu,” managed to evade arrest but left behind a driver’s license. Authorities are intensifying efforts to apprehend him.

During the operation, operatives seized 11 heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing the suspected shabu, a black chest bag, an Android mobile phone, and the P10,000 buy-bust money.

The arrested suspect is detained at the Maharlika Custodial Facility while cases for alleged violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 are being prepared.

The confiscated illegal drugs will undergo qualitative and quantitative examination at the Regional Forensic Unit 10.

Brig. Gen. Nestor Babagay Jr., Police Regional Office 10 (PRO-10) director, said the seizure resulted from intelligence-driven operations and close interagency coordination.

“We will continue to go after those who bring illegal drugs into our communities. PRO-10 will find them, and we will make sure they face the law,” Babagay said in a statement on Sunday. /mcm
