Top-order failures a concern for India?
After getting used to playing on flat decks home, the Indian batters have struggled to score runs in their two matches in Japan so far.
In the first match, confronted by a wicket that was low and slow, India nearly lost to Japan after managing only 32/4 from its five overs in a rain-shortened game.
In its first match in the Asian Games 2026 against Sri Lanka, a similar tale unfolded as India’s batters, barring Ishan Kishan and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to an extent, struggled to adapt to a turning wicket that did not allow for easy runs.
With similar conditions set to prevail in the final and a gold medal at stake, India should tread carefully and learn from its mistakes.

Sri Lanka wins bronze
There has already been one men’s cricket match today, with Sri Lanka cruising past Bangladesh to secure the brozne medal courtesy of an all-round performance from Tharindu Ratnayake.
The ambidextrous all-rounder hit 65 from 32 balls with the bat to rescue SL from 54/5 with bat in hand, before returning figures of 2/18 with the ball to power SL to a 63-run win.

What happens if the match is washed out?
There have been several issues with rain throughout this tournament. All four quarterfinals were washed out, while Pakistan’s semifinal against Bangladesh was also a curtailed affair.
If rain has a telling impact today, it will result in both teams sharing the gold medal, a change from the last edition.

No Mohsin Naqvi for presentation ceremony
India skipping the presentation ceremony was a foregone conclusion but with Mohsin Naqvi, the Asian Cricket Council chairman set to be absent, will Shreyas Iyer and co. participate in the formalities? We wait to find out.

The last meeting: T20 WC 2026
The last time these two sides met came in the T20 World Cup 2026 in Colombo in February.
Played in the tense context of a threatened boycott by Pakistan, Ishan Kishan dominated the match with a blistering 77 on a tricky wicket as India posted 175 for seven before the Indian spin contingent of Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel ran through the Pakistani batting to help India post a 61-run win.

Can India defend gold?
India has extra pride to play for as it looks to retain the Asian Games gold medal it won Hangzhou in 2023. India won the gold medal by virtue of being the higher-seeded team after its final against Afghanistan was washed out.
Five members of that squad – Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube, Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, and Tilak Varma – are in this one.
