Adam Driver Shuts Down ‘Girls’ Return But Wishes Lena Dunham & Co-Stars “Best Of Luck”

Although Lena Dunham is bringing back Girls for a limited run, don’t expect all the boys to return.

Adam Driver, who played Dunham’s romantic lead Adam Sackler in the 2012-’17 HBO series, recently shut down a return to the character, following HBO’s announcement of a five-episode revival.

“No, but I wish them the best of luck,” Driver told CinemaBlend about potentially reprising his role.

Last month, series creator and star Dunham was joined by co-stars Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet and Andrew Rannells for a video announcing the HBO Original, which begins production in 2027.

Dunham created and starred in Girls as millennial writer Hannah Horvath, navigating her 20s in New York City. The show ran for six seasons from 2012 to 2017.

Despite Hannah’s on-and-off romance with the character Adam on the show, Dunham has noted that she didn’t write “didn’t write Adam’s character to be a romantic hero,” adding: “That is not what I was going for.”

The Golden Globe winner has recently reflected on her time on the HBO series in her memoir Famesick, which is now available, writing that Driver was “verbally aggressive” during filming of the show. When asked about claim at Cannes, Driver had “no comment,” quipping that he’s “saving it all for my book.”
