Habagat ends but ITCZ brings rain to parts of PH – Pagasa
.

MANILA, Philippines — The northeasterly wind flow, easterlies, and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) are bringing rains to parts of the country on Sunday, the state weather bureau said.

In its 5 a.m. weather forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the northeasterly wind flow would affect Batanes, while the easterlies, or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, would prevail over other parts of Luzon.

Meanwhile, the ITCZ, where warm winds from the Northern and Southern hemispheres converge, would continue to affect Palawan, the Visayas, and Mindanao.

“A huge portion of Luzon will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the easterlies and ITCZ. Rains are possible over the Cagayan Valley Region, Aurora, parts of Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and the Bicol Region,” weather specialist Obet Badrina said.

Badrina added that the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Central Luzon would have fair weather, although localized rain showers and thunderstorms remain possible.

The ITCZ would also continue to affect Palawan, the Visayas, and Mindanao until Monday, bringing rains to Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, and a large portion of Mindanao. Central and Eastern Visayas would experience localized thunderstorms.

Weather disturbances outside the PAR

Pagasa was also monitoring Typhoon Koguma and a tropical depression outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), but neither was directly affecting the country as of Sunday.

Koguma was last estimated to be 2,795 kilometers east-northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon and moving northwestward, away from the PAR.

The tropical depression was last located 2,940 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon and was not expected to enter the PAR.
