Chelsea player ratings vs Brentford: Debutant scores 4/10 as star men anonymous

Chelsea head into the international break off the back of a three-match winless run after a humbling 3-0 defeat at Brentford.

The points were sealed by substitute Fabio Carvalho, who stepped off the bench to tap home unmarked at the far post.

The Bees are up to third in the Premier League table, and remain unbeaten from their first five games.

Emi Martinez 6

Very little to do, and hardly troubled until the goals. Some may say he could have been more authoritative at the corner, but he was let down by slack marking. Saved from Schade for the second.

Wesley Fofana 6

Tidy in the right channel up against the tricky Kevin Schade. Stood his ground well when Thiago peeled onto him and Keane Lewis-Potter got up on the overlap.

Too many nervy moments jumping into challenges, which left gaps at the back for the pace of Schade and Anthony to exploit. He stepped up too aggressively for the second, and despite his recovery pace being a key attribute of his, Schade was too quick for him as he hared clear.

Levi Colwill 4

Skippered the side in lieu of James, and was steady in possession and measured in his challenge with Thiago. Ultimately oversaw another calamitous defensive display as the leaks began to appear once more in the defensive unit.

Pedro Neto 4

Determined down the right but ultimately not cutting edge in the final third, as shown by his first-half effort that was comfortably parried by Kelleher. Tried to take on Lewis-Potter but found himself doubled up on as Schade carried out his defensive duties. Was found wanting a number of times defensively, with gaps emerging behind him for the hosts to exploit.

Jordan Henderson 4

Met with boos from the home support every time he touched the ball, but things were just too pedestrian from the veteran. Deployed as the sitter of the double pivot, there was a distinct lack of incision in his passing range.

Valentin Barco 4

Dogged and was asked to push up and sit on Yehor Yarmoliuk, who was operating in the half-back role for the Bees. Ultimately, with Brentford’s extra man in the engine room, the Argentine found himself overrun.

Pep Chavarria 4

A similar fate to Neto. Aggressive in the challenge and in advancing up the field to support attacking moves and keep the width, but little by way of accurate deliveries.

Morgan Rogers 5

Struggled to make an impact as Michael Kayode and Jannik Schuster patrolled the left channel with authority. Was moved up front as Alonso switched to a 4-2-3-1 as the game slipped away from the visitors, but just as ineffective.

Cole Palmer 5

A similar story. Tried his best to break the lines with his ball-carrying and cute interplay, but those moments were few and far between as they lacked the service into his feet.

Danny Welbeck 5

Did well on the rare occasion to hold the ball up, but starved of any real service. Hooked as the visitors sought to salvage something.

Introduced to stretch the home defence, but was well handled by Aaron Hickey.

Josh Acheampong 5

On to help the Blues change formation, but was at fault as Schade sped away for the second. It was his touch that diverted the cross into Carvalho’s path for the third.
