MELAKA, Oct 24 — Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari has congratulated the national contingent on achieving its target of six gold medals at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games.

He expressed his appreciation to all national athletes for delivering outstanding performances and striving with great determination to achieve the target.

“Alhamdulillah, I would like to commend and congratulate our national athletes for successfully achieving the target as of today.

“This achievement is the result of the collective efforts of our athletes, coaches, sports associations, the National Sports Council (NSC), the National Sports Institute (NSI) and all parties involved,” he told Bernama at Kompleks Belia dan Sukan Negeri Melaka here today.

Earlier, he officiated the Malaysia Aktif programme and the launch of the 2026 Melaka-level Basic Sports Training Skills (KLAS) in Martial Arts programme, which was also attended by Melaka Youth and Sports Department director Ahmad Syammeil Mohamad Karim.

Dr Mohammed Taufiq said he hoped the achievement would serve as a catalyst for national athletes to continue improving their performance and secure more successes for Malaysia in the future.

The national contingent had earlier set a target of six gold, 10 silver and 16 bronze medals at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games, with medals expected from athletics, badminton and boccia.

As of 10am today, Malaysia had won six gold, eight silver and 13 bronze medals. — Bernama
