Ekiti gov dissolves cabinet, boards, commissions ahead of inauguration

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on Sunday, approved the immediate dissolution of boards, commissions, and parastatals.

He also terminated the appointment of all political appointees.

Those affected by the termination include the Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants, and Technical Assistants.

Mr Oyebanji, who won the June 20 governorship election in the state, would be sworn in for a second term on 16 October.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s Special Adviser (Media), Yinka Oyebode, the decision became imperative in view of the gradual winding down of the governor’s first term in office.

However, Mr Oyebode added that chairmen and members of statutory boards are not affected by the dissolution. They include the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), the Civil Service Commission, the House of Assembly Service Commission, and the Judicial Service Commission.

Similarly, the governing councils of all state-owned tertiary institutions remain intact, in line with the governor’s earlier directives.

The chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the local Government Service Commission, and the Teaching Service Commission are to remain in office. However, their respective boards have been dissolved.

Also exempt from termination are the directors-general and technical advisers to the governor.

Mr Oyebanji expressed appreciation to the affected appointees for their diverse contributions to the success of his administration and their service to Ekiti State.

He wished them continued success in their future endeavours.
