Sol Phenduka sorry for Kempton Park runner ‘joke’ [video]

Podcast and Chil co-presenter Sol Phenduka has apologised for his comments mocking one of the Kempton Park murder victims – Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo.

The media personality made the comments during a recent episode filmed alongside MacG, whose real name is MacGyver Mukwevho.

To date, the bodies of 8 women have been discovered, some of whom were found partially naked and sexually assaulted. The perpetrator – whom some have labelled a “serial killer” – has not been found.

SOL PHENDUKA SORRY OVER KEMPTON PARK ‘JOKE’

In a video posted on his social media platforms, Sol Phenduka claimed that his comments about a Kempton Park woman who had been kidnapped – now identified as runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo – had been recorded over the weekend, before her family identified her body at a Germiston mortuary.

He said, “I made an unfortunate pun or joke. At the time, we laughed. But it’s not funny anymore.

“I want to profusely apologise to South Africans, to chillers and to her family”/

“Deriving a joke, be it targeting someone else, about a situation involving a missing person, is distasteful. It is a traumatic situation. Especially in the context of South Africa and the high femicide that we have”.

Sol Phenduka stated that he was an anti-gender-based violence advocate and “would never make light of such a tragic moment”.

He also pleaded with his male followers to “stop the violence”.

“It’s mostly men who are the perpetrators”, he added.

WHAT DID HE SAY?

In a clip from Podcast and Chill released on Monday, Sol Phenduka and MacG casually spoke about a woman who had gone missing in Kempton Park.

At the time of recording, the woman – now identified as Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo – had not been confirmed dead.

Sol joked that an opportunistic individual had abducted the woman, hoping to cash in on a big payday in ransom money.

Over the years, Podcast and Chill’s Sol Phenduka and MacG have come under fire for making derogatory comments about women.

The list includes high-profile women like activist and actress Rosie Motene, media personality Amanda du Pont, singer Kelly Khumalo, and, most recently, Minnie Dlamini.
