WWE star Charlotte Flair was front and center ahead of the Carolina Panthers’ Week 4 matchup against the Detroit Lions on Sunday night.

The 14-time champion was born in Charlotte and went to high school in the city where she was a two-time volleyball state champion and team captain. She got started training in WWE in 2012 and made her NXT debut in 2013.

She told "The Ringer Wrestling Show" last year she believed she was given the ring name Charlotte because of where she and her father, Ric Flair, are from. She said she pitched the idea of Elizabeth Reid because she was a fan of the legendary valet Miss Elizabeth and wanted to pay tribute to her brother.

Years later, Charlotte Flair has stuck and has become an iconic name in professional wrestling.

In addition to her 14 world titles, she was also a two-time NXT women’s champion, two-time tag team champion and won the women’s Royal Rumble match twice. She was the fourth women’s Grand Slam champion and fifth women’s Triple Crown champion.

The name "Flair" bridges the gap between pro wrestling and mainstream sports. Charlotte Flair has managed to create a name of her own in her career.
