CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — After helping secure the historic Bangsamoro Parliamentary elections last month, troops of the Army’s 27th Infantry Battalion (27IB) have finally returned home.

Maj. Gen. Alvin Luzon, 10th Infantry Division commander, alongside Brig. Gen. Christopher Diaz of the 1003rd Infantry Brigade, led the welcome ceremony for the returning officers and enlisted personnel on October 7 at Sitio Pag-asa, Barangay Malabog in Paquibato District, Davao City.

During the deployment, the battalion was sent to the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to ensure the safety of the September 14 polls.

“The 27IB augmented the election security operations of the 6th Infantry Division in the Special Geographic Area of BARMM, contributing to the safe, peaceful, and orderly conduct of the electoral process,” Maj. Ruben Gadut, 10th ID Public Affairs Office, told the Inquirer on Thursday, October 8.

During Wednesday’s ceremony, Lt. Col. Eliezer Bejarin, 27IB commanding officer, presented the battalion’s completeness and accomplishment report, officially marking the end of their election mission. The returning troops were also awarded the Military Merit Medal in recognition of their invaluable service.

Luzon commended the soldiers for their vigilance and professionalism, noting that their presence ensured a secure environment for voters to exercise their rights, and that the deployment experience would strengthen the battalion’s future readiness.

“You have proven that wherever the Agila flies, the same standard of discipline and professionalism follows. Congratulations and welcome back to the Eagle’s Nest,” Luzon said in his address.

With their regional election duties concluded, the battalion is now preparing for its next phase of operations.

“The 27IB returns to the 10ID with renewed readiness to support the Division’s broader security mandate, including its full immersion in External Security Operations and other missions contributing to national security and the protection of the nation’s interests,” Gadut added./coa
