Sara Duterte impeachment trial Day 30: What to expect
The Senate impeachment court is expected to continue on Monday, September 28, the witness cross-examinations and the presentation of evidence regarding alleged unexplained wealth and corporate ties of Vice President Sara Duterte.
It can be recalled that the impeachment court issued a fresh subpoena for Davao City Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte, Atty. Gary Samonte, and Police Major Jerickson Sangalang for September 28 to 30, Monday to Wednesday.
The subpoena ad testificandum et duces tecum for the Davao City top official was issued by the Senate impeachment court as GenCorp Industries Inc., which the vice president declared as one of her business interests in her 2024 and 2025 Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs), secured contracts with the Davao City government worth about P30 million.
The subpoena was already received by Baste's office.
But the Davao City mayor already denied that he was aware of his sister's alleged link to GenCorp Industries Inc.
During Day 28 of the impeachment trial on Tuesday, the House prosecution presented Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System (PhilGEPS) Division Chief Rendell Sopeña, who testified that the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) Region 11 alone awarded 33 contracts to GenCorp.
The House prosecution said they were presenting Sopeña and GenCorp.-won contracts as evidence to prove the subsection of Article 2 of the Articles of Impeachment on unexplained wealth, which is the Vice President’s non-divestment of other business and financial interests.
Sopeña committed to return on Monday as the impeachment will continue tackling the alleged unexplained wealth of the vice president. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/KG, GMA News
