PTA can apply directly for school repairs under RM2bil allocation

PUTRAJAYA: Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA) nationwide can submit applications directly to the Education Ministry (MOE) for maintenance and repairs to their respective schools' physical facilities for 2027.
The special application channel is open for a month, from Nov 1 to 30, allowing PTAs to list their schools' infrastructure repair needs for the ministry's consideration.
In a statement, MOE said the initiative followed the announcement of an increased allocation of RM2 billion for school maintenance under the 2027 Budget, an increase of RM1 billion from the previous allocation.
The ministry said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when tabling the Budget on Oct 9, also announced the allocation to repair and maintain all types of schools nationwide.
"To this end, MOE has established a special channel for PTA to submit applications directly for their schools' maintenance and physical facility repair needs for 2027.
"Applications are open for a month, from Nov 1 to 30, through the link and QR code provided," the statement said.
Previously, on Aug 30, Anwar announced a 50 per cent increase in the school maintenance allocation, from RM1 billion to RM1.5 billion for 2027, during the 2026 National Day Prime Minister's Address at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).
He also directed MOE to conduct ground visits to every district to assess applications for school infrastructure repairs.
However, MOE stressed that the opening of the special application channel did not mean that all applications submitted would be automatically approved.
Instead, each proposal must be based on actual needs, with priority given to critical damage and issues involving the safety risks of pupils and school staff.
MOE hopes the facility will make it easier for PTAs to submit maintenance and repair applications for their respective schools directly to the ministry.
