Strong monsoon rains to hit Luzon

MANILA, Philippines — Heavy rainfall and flooding due to the southwest monsoon are likely to have “significant” impact on parts of Luzon over the weekend, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration warned yesterday.
According to PAGASA, heavy rainfall warning would be hoisted over parts of Bataan and Zambales today, as it advised the public and local authorities to take precautionary measures.
Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas and Occidental Mindoro will experience occasional rains, according to PAGASA.
Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms would be felt in Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region and Northern Samar.
The rest of the country would have localized thunderstorms and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Yesterday, the House of Representatives implemented a work-from-home arrangement to ensure the safety of its workforce.
“Pursuant to Memorandum Circular 135 issued by the Office of the President, the House shall implement a WFH arrangement for all officials and employees, except those whose physical presence is necessary for essential and critical operations, as determined by their respective heads of department,” House Secretary General Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil said.
Malacañang issued Memorandum Circular 135 upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council amid continued heavy rainfall.
The circular directed government offices in Metro Manila and 13 other provinces to implement appropriate alternative work arrangements, while agencies providing basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response, and other vital services were directed to continue operations. – Delon Porcalla
