Manjung council seizes 17 fighting cocks from house

Translate

LUMUT: Seventeen chickens believed to be used for cockfighting were seized from a house in Resident 3, Bandar Baru Setia Awan Perdana (BBSAP), here, yesterday.

Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) Licensing and Enforcement Department director Mohamad Sharil Salihan said the council had previously issued a notice ordering the homeowner to clean up the premises.

"A notice was also issued for the homeowner to stop keeping chickens that were causing a nuisance.

"However, the homeowner failed to comply with the instructions. MPM therefore took enforcement action and seized the chickens believed to have been used for cockfighting," he said here today.

He said two round cages and one square cage were also seized during the operation.

He said the seizure was intended to ensure that animals kept in residential areas did not cause a nuisance or breach regulations.

He did not rule out the possibility that the house had been illegally occupied by irresponsible individuals without the owner's knowledge.

"The chicken owner may have been renting the house. No one was present when MPM carried out the seizure.

"MPM will continue its monitoring and enforcement efforts to ensure residential areas remain clean, orderly and comfortable for all," he said.
