The Defense will continue its cross-examination of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) witness on Friday, who is testifying on Article 2 of the impeachment case accusing Vice President Sara Duterte of amassing unexplained wealth.

BIR Office of the Commissioner chief of staff Atty. Anne Loraine Garcia-Marquez is set to return to the witness stand once the trial resumes at 10 a.m.

Once cross-examination ends, the prosecution and the defense will each have an opportunity for redirect and recross-examination of the witness.

Senator-judges will thereafter be given two minutes each for their interjections.

Should the testimony of Garcia-Marquez finish within the day, the prosecution may present its next witness, financial analyst Atty. Alexander Cabrera.

Impeachment court spokesperson Regie Tongol said that Cabrera is expected to tie up the testimonies of the previous witnesses for Article 2, specifically that of Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) Executive Director Ronel Buenaventura, BIR’s Garcia-Marquez, as well as the representatives from banks, insurance and financial firms.

“Doon talaga maitatali ‘yung connection ng SALN, ‘yung connection ng bank records, ‘yung connection ng report ng AMLC on the CTRs and STRs, at ‘yung connection din ng mga BIR records at saka ‘yung mga income ng mga corporation or entities associated with the respondent and her husband,” Tongol said in a press conference on Thursday.

(His testimony will tie the possible connections of the SALNs, bank records, the AMLC report on CTRs and STRs, BIR records, and the income of corporations or entities associated with the respondent and her husband.)

“Siya ‘yung magtatali no’n at magkukuwento kung paano siya nakaka-relate dito sa Article 2. So ngayon, ni-lay nila (prosecution) ‘yung predicate para doon sa witness na ‘yun,” he added.

(That witness will tie everything together and explain how it relates to Article 2. So, the prosecution has now laid the groundwork for that witness.) —LDF, GMA News
