Anambra police arrest woman over alleged self-kidnap

Translate

AWKA — The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old woman, Nwachukwu Chidubem Blessing, over an alleged case of conspiracy, fraud and self-kidnapping.

The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, following intelligence gathered during an investigation into her alleged abduction.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the woman was reportedly abducted along the Onitsha–Asaba Expressway on August 29, 2026.

He said her family subsequently paid N3 million in ransom, but the woman was allegedly not released, prompting further investigation by the police.

Ikenga said sustained intelligence gathering and investigative efforts led police operatives to a room in Asaba, Delta State, where the alleged victim was found and recovered on September 18.

“Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that the lady allegedly conspired with a female associate identified as Onyinye, whose other names are yet to be established, and another male accomplice, whose identity is presently unknown, to stage her own kidnapping and obtain money from her family,” Ikenga said.

He said the arrested woman was assisting the police with information that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify and apprehend her alleged accomplices.

Ikenga added that the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Amah, had directed that the investigation be intensified to unravel the circumstances surrounding the case.

He said anyone found culpable would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
