LGAN seeks partnership for African golf championship

The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria has sought a medical partnership with the National Hospital Abuja ahead of the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy in the Federal Capital Territory.

LGAN president and chairperson of the tournament’s Local Organising Committee, Lami Ahmed, requested a visit to the hospital on Wednesday.

Nigeria is scheduled to host the All Africa Challenge Trophy from November 2 to 7 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, with about 30 African countries expected to participate.

The Nigeria Ladies Open Championship will follow from November 7 to 10.

Ahmed said the tournaments required comprehensive medical arrangements because of the number of players, officials, and other participants expected to converge on Abuja.

“We are requesting the National Hospital Abuja to serve as a principal medical partner for both championships,” she said.

The LGAN president requested an equipped ambulance, qualified medical personnel, emergency supplies, and established evacuation and referral arrangements throughout the tournaments.

She also called for prompt reception and treatment of anyone requiring further medical attention, while seeking the hospital’s support for the competition’s medical and safety committee.

National Hospital Abuja management welcomed the request, with the hospital indicating its readiness to review the proposal and work with the organisers on appropriate emergency-response arrangements.

The AACT is one of Africa’s major women’s amateur golf competitions and will bring players from different countries to Nigeria.

The tournament will provide Nigeria with an opportunity to host leading amateur golfers from across the continent while showcasing the country’s capacity to stage international golf events.

The organisers are expected to continue preparations ahead of the November championships.
