Union marks golden jubilee

Translate

The University of Ilorin Christian Union will celebrate its 50th anniversary from November 22 to 29, 2026, with activities scheduled to hold across the university campus.

The week-long celebration will mark five decades of the union’s existence, growth, and Christian evangelism within the University of Ilorin and beyond.

In a press release on Saturday announcing the anniversary, the Chairman of the 50th Anniversary Committee, Olusegun Omotayo, stated that the union began in 1976 as a small evangelical fellowship before evolving into a major platform for spreading the gospel.

Omotayo attributed the union’s growth and survival over the past 50 years to God’s faithfulness, favor, and grace.

He described the golden jubilee as a celebration of God’s enduring presence in the union’s journey, expressing optimism that the anniversary would usher in a new phase of spiritual growth, revival, and renewed commitment to Christian values.

According to him, the anniversary theme is inspired by Haggai 2:9, which states that “the glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former.”

He noted that the biblical declaration reflected the union’s expectation of greater spiritual awakening and a deeper manifestation of God’s presence within the university community.

“The anniversary is not just an opportunity to celebrate our past, but also to look forward to a greater future of spiritual revival, growth, and commitment to the work of God,” Omotayo said.

The statement noted that the anniversary would serve as a call to students and members of the university community to strengthen their relationship with God and reaffirm their identity as His chosen people.

It added that the union remained committed to deepening its devotion to prayer, worship, fellowship, evangelism, and the uncompromising teaching of the Word of God as it entered the second half of its first century.

Omotayo expressed gratitude for the union’s journey over the past five decades and urged members to embrace the anniversary as an opportunity to renew their dedication to its spiritual mission.

He stated that the golden jubilee would provide an opportunity to reflect on the union’s achievements while preparing for greater impact within and beyond the university community.

The celebration, tagged UCU@50, is expected to commemorate the union’s history while setting the tone for its future activities and continued contribution to Christian evangelism.
