Translate

The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has congratulated Nigeria’s Flamingos following their impressive 3-1 victory over Brazil to secure a historic place in the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The Nigerian youngsters produced a commanding performance on Wednesday night to reach the final of the competition for the first time in their history.

Queen Joseph opened the scoring with a close-range finish four minutes before the hour mark, giving the Flamingos a deserved lead.

Winger Awawu Bashiru then stole the spotlight with two outstanding goals in the 71st and 80th minutes to put Nigeria firmly in control and leave Brazil with an uphill task.

Greise Kelly pulled one back for the South Americans with a late header, but her effort proved insufficient to prevent Nigeria from securing a memorable victory.

Reacting to the historic achievement, CAF took to its official X account to celebrate the Flamingos’ qualification.

“AFRICA, MAKE SOME NOISE! THE FLAMINGOS ARE WORLD CUP FINALISTS! 🤯💚,” the continental football governing body posted.

Nigeria will now turn their attention to Saturday’s final, where they will face Japan at Pitch 3 of the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, Morocco, as they look to make history by lifting the trophy.
