Zero motions, zero Bills: Dewan Rakyat Speaker still waiting on no-confidence bid, PM term-limit, and AG-PP split

BANGI, Sept 23 — Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said he has yet to receive any motion of no confidence for the upcoming parliamentary sitting.

“Not even one (motion of no confidence) has been received. I have not heard anything about it,” he told reporters after officiating the ‘Negara Bangsa: Membina Jati Diri dan Identiti Nasional’ dialogue here today.

His remarks came after UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi challenged any party seeking to remove UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) from the Unity Government to formally do so by tabling a no-confidence motion in the Dewan Rakyat.

Johari also said he had yet to receive the proposed Bills on the separation of the roles of the Attorney General and Public Prosecutor, as well as the Bill to limit the Prime Minister’s tenure.

“I was informed that there were plans for them, but I have yet to receive the papers. Usually, two weeks before the tabling, the Speaker will be informed. But so far, I have not received anything,” he said.

Earlier, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said the Bill to limit the Prime Minister’s tenure was ready to be tabled in the upcoming parliamentary session.

According to the Dewan Rakyat calendar on the Parliament website, the Third Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament will run for 37 days from Oct 5 to Dec 8, with Budget 2027 scheduled to be tabled on Oct 9. — Bernama
