An Ill-Timed Guitar Center Contest: Open for Ed Sheeran

As you may have heard, Ed Sheeran currently finds himself without any openers (or a backing band, for that matter). The situation arose after he caved to pressure and dumped his original tour support, Macklemore, a result of the “Thrift Shop” artist making pro-Palestine statements during a set. The rest of the opening acts subsequently dropped off in support of Macklemore. In light of all the developments, it remains to be seen what will come of the Sheeran’s “LOOP” tour, but as it turns out, the solution to the “Shape of You” star’s problems might be… you?

That’s right, Guitar Center is inviting unknown artists to apply for a chance to open for Sheeran. Like, for real.

In fairness, the contest launched on August 19th, a good bit before… you know, everything. Still, at time of writing, the application page remains live and active. See for yourself here, and scroll down to see some folks already taking the opportunity to troll Sheeran with both pointed and silly entries.
