Axe-wielding robber to be charged in court tomorrow

GEORGE TOWN: One of two suspects involved in a robbery while armed with an axe at a watch repair shop on Jalan Anson will be charged at the magistrate's court here tomorrow.

Northeast police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the suspect will be charged under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt during a robbery.

This, he said, was as the owner of the shop was injured in the incident.

On Sept 22, police obtained seven-day remand orders to detain two friends, aged 42 and 43, in connection with the robbery the previous day.

The suspects were reported to have arrived at the shop in a white-coloured Volkswagen car. While one waited in the vehicle, the other entered the shop armed with an axe.

The armed suspect ordered the shop owner's wife to hand over whatever money she had, but the 59-year-old owner tried to intervene.

A struggled ensued, leading to the owner sustaining injuries to his right hand and the suspect fleeing the scene in the car driven by his accomplice.
