James Buckley reveals The Inbetweeners 3 set prank that stopped them filming

According to The Inbetweeners 3 star James Buckley, one prank on the set of the upcoming sequel proved so complex that the directors had to cut a shot to make up for lost time.

Twelve years after the lads ventured Down Under for The Inbetweeners 2, Buckley's Jay Cartwright, Simon Bird's Will McKenzie, Joe Thomas's Simon Cooper, and Blake Harrison's Neil Sutherland will reunite for a new Netflix film.

The latest episode of The Buckleys, a podcast the actor co-hosts with his partner Clair, was recorded live from the film's set and offered a few tantalising insights into what's in store.

"We sellotaped Joe to a chair," Buckley said. "And Iain [Morris] and Damon [Beesley], who are the directors and who are meant to be the serious guys in charge, said the day after, 'We had to drop a shot', like a whole shot of the scene because we took too long trying to get Joe out of that chair."

"And they went, 'But it was worth it'. We're having such a great time."

The film's plot has so far been kept under wraps, though fans have been quick to theorise after leaked set photos hinted at both a wedding and a trip to Magaluf involving the unexpected return of a character.

Buckley called the leaks "a little bit annoying", though he added: "It's nice that people are excited about it."

On the podcast's latest episode, he shared his confidence in the sequel as a return to form for the quartet.

"We haven't missed a beat," the actor said. "We've slotted straight back in, and we're having such a laugh. This is as good as it gets. I'm glad we are doing it. I was really worried about it."

"It's not really that important; it's just a stupid film that we're making. I just built it up in my head."

"It's genuinely quite important to me and also the other boys and Iain and Damon. So as much of a laugh as we're having, it's not lost on us how important this is. This is as good as it gets filming something."

Aside from the main cast, Netflix have not made any other official cast announcements ahead of the scheduled 2027 release date, though Emily Head (Carli D'Amato) and Martin Trenaman (Alan Cooper) were also spotted on set.

The Inbetweeners 3 has no official release date. You can watch the original series in full via Channel 4's streaming platform.
