NSCIA expands its national executive council

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), under the leadership of President General, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar and Secretary-General Ishaq Oloyede (a professor), has restructured and expanded the organisation’s National Executive Council (NEC).
The development followed decisions reached during the Council’s General Assembly, held in Abuja on Thursday, 1st October, 2026, Abbas Jimoh, the organisation’s public affairs officer, said.
The General Assembly, which was attended by Muslim leaders comprising traditional leaders of the Islamic faith, Chief Imams of the Central Mosques in 36 states and the FCT, approved the renewal and expansion of the National Executive Council of the NSCIA as follows:
I. Deputy Secretary-General (National) – Prof. Mahfouz Adedimeji
II. Deputy Secretary-General (International) – Prof. Salisu Shehu
III. Deputy Secretary-General (Corporate) – Mr Abeny Mohammed (SAN)
IV. Deputy Secretary-General (Administration) – Dr Bala Muhammad
V. Public Relations Officer (PRO) – Dr Umar Jibrilu Gwandu
VI. Deputy Public Relations Officer (DPRO) – Hajia Sekinat Lawal
VII. Development Officer – Dr Mairo Mandara
VIII. Deputy Development Officer (Technical) – Arc Abdullahi Musa PenAbdul
IX. Family Affairs Officer – Prof. Fatimah Abdulkarim
The NSCIA is the apex Islamic authority in Nigeria. It was established in 1973 to “cater for, preserve, protect, promote and advance the interest of Islam and Muslims throughout the country” and has been responsible for the unity of Nigerian Muslims as the official body, recognised by the Nigerian Federal and State Governments, coordinating Islamic affairs in Nigeria.

The NSCIA is headquartered at the Abuja National Mosque Office Complex in the Central Business District, Abuja, Nigeria.
The Council is established to cater for, preserve, protect, promote and advance the interests of Islam and the Muslims throughout Nigeria.
