Kaizer Chiefs eye R6.6 million payday after MTN8 disappointment

Translate

Kaizer Chiefs will return to continental action later this month with a lucrative opportunity to boost their finances.

Amakhosi have been drawn against Zambian side Red Arrows in the CAF Confederation Cup, with a place in the group stages and a potential R6.6 million payday up for grabs.

The opportunity comes after Chiefs were knocked out of the MTN8, leaving the club with another chance to compete for silverware and significant prize money this season.

The Glamour Boys competed in the CAF Confederation Cup last season and successfully reached the group stage.

They appeared on course to progress to the quarter-finals after putting themselves in a strong position in their group during the latter stages of the campaign.

However, a defeat to Egyptian giants Zamalek in their final group match brought their continental campaign to an end.

Kaizer Chiefs looking for CAF redemption

Amakhosi will now have to navigate the qualifying rounds if they are to return to the group stage this season.

Chiefs will face Red Arrows over two legs in the second qualifying round.

The Zambian club will host the first leg at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Saturday, 17 October.

Kaizer Chiefs will then have home advantage in the return leg, with the club confirming that the second meeting will take place at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday, 23 October, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00.

The two-legged tie will determine which team advances to the Confederation Cup group stage.

For Chiefs, progression would not only keep their continental ambitions alive but also bring a significant financial reward.

A place in the Confederation Cup group stages guarantees a minimum prize of USD400,000, which is approximately R6.6 million.

That makes the tie against Red Arrows particularly important for Amakhosi, who will be looking to turn their continental campaign into both sporting and financial success.

Kaizer Chiefs will also have another opportunity to compete for prize money later this year when they participate in the Carling Knockout Cup.

With multiple competitions still ahead, Amakhosi have several opportunities to challenge for trophies while adding valuable revenue to the club.
