DC Unveils Classic Villain's Shimmering Redesign After 44 Years

An experienced Editor representing Canada via ScreenRant's Team Anime, J.R. has been reading manga since the first printing of Shonen Jump in North America. This passion drove him to write about anime, manga, and manhwa since 2022, having recently served as Lead Anime Editor for ComicBook.com.
His favorite moments in media coverage include reviewing the series premieres of Zom 100 and Bleach: TYBW Part 2 back-to-back and briefly meeting Junji Ito at a VIZ gallery event in 2023.
DC's Absolute Universe remains on a roll with its continuous feed of hit new redesigns of classic legacy characters. Some are certainly less subtle than others, while cases like Abra Kadabra's Absolute makeover were intentionally more subdued. But in Absolute Wonder Woman's case, iconic villain looks have ranged from nightmare fuel to appropriately majestic, with the Silver Swan getting a shimmering new look courtesy of DC Comics' latest solicits. Having originated from the Bronze Age-era in 1982, this particular Wonder Woman villain has garnered her fair share of fans who adore the various characters to don the moniker.
Shown recently in Absolute Wonder Woman #28's solicits, featuring the main cover by Hayden Sherman, it's easily one of the most authentic yet stylish Absolute Universe redesigns to date. With silver-white hair resembling that of Valerie Beaudry yet an armor/exoskeleton looking like the one worn by Vanessa Kapatelis, alongside ballet shoes resembling Helen Alexandros' aesthetic, there are already numerous worthy candidates for who could be revealed as this continuity's current Silver Swan. With Absolute Wonder Woman's story entering a new chapter and Fabiana Mascolo coming on as the interior illustrator to continue Kelly Thompson's solid run, fans will soon see what Wonder Woman's remixed adversary can do.
Absolute Wonder Woman Introduces Its Silver Swan In January 2027
As seen in the solicits for the new year, Absolute Wonder Woman will begin the two-parter "Swan Songs" storyline in which Doctor Psycho will also find the opportunity to appear as a major antagonist to the Princess of Hell. Given the mention of a shriek piercing the air, it's safe to say Silver Swan's flight will also be paired with her classic sonic abilities, but doubtlessly with an added Absolute twist. All this and more will be revealed with the release of Absolute Wonder Woman #28 on January 27, 2027.
THE TWO-PART "SWAN SONGS" BEGINS HERE!
Veronica Cale's fear has led her down a path from which there is no return. And as an inhuman shriek tears at Gateway City, Doctor Psycho smiles. He has been waiting his whole life for something like what just crashed into his pool. It's the perfect weapon to tame his latest obsession...the Wonder Woman!
-Absolute Wonder Woman #28 Solicit
Regardless of whether it's Vanessa, Helen, or Valerie, the design is positively stunning and another gorgeous rendition by Sherman to add to the collection. But given recent sightings such as by @BatmanHypeGuy on X, it looks like at least Vanessa has a head start as primary candidate to don the suit, at least for now, as of Absolute Wonder Woman #25.
DC's Absolute Universe Has Plenty On The Way To Start Its Next Era
Between the next Absolute Wonder Woman story and the climactic conclusions for Batman and Superman's sagas, as well as Absolute Green Arrow setting up Pornsak Pichetshote's additional run with Absolute Black Canary, there's a ton to already be excited about. But with Absolute Justice slated for release in April 2027, the mightiest heroes of the comics world's most exciting lineup will gather for a brand-new blockbuster event.
With the series set as a five-part event series setting up further interconnected story between its unique spins on classic heroes, Martian Manhunter's gathering of the team will be written and illustrated by the Absolute Superman duo of Jason Aaron and Juan Ferreyra. For those who've been following their work, it'll surely be a combination of epic clashes and cathartic moments as DC's darkly rebooted continuity hurtles toward the teased Absolute Crisis engulfing virtually every important hero and villain so far.
