North-south Commuter Railway full operation timeline revised to 2033

The timeline of completion for the North-south Commuter Railway (NSCR) has been revised, with complete operations being eyed by 2033, according to Malacañang.

The NSCR, a 147.26-kilometer elevated railway linking Central Luzon, Metro Manila and Calabarzon, was expected to be finished by 2032.

However, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said that following the 11th Economy and Development Council Meeting, the timeline has been moved due to budgetary constraints.

“Nagkaroon po ng kaunting pagbabago tungkol sa timeline, dahil alam naman po natin na nagkaroon ng medyo pagtitipid, mag-iingat sa pondo ng bayan at nahirapan po sa mga procurements and maliban pa po diyan ay nagkakaroon din po ng isyu sa right of way,” Castro said.

(There is a slight change in the timeline, because we know that there has been a bit of cost-cutting, being cautious of public funds and there was a difficulty in procurement and other than that, there was also an issue with the right of way.)

According to Castro, the new timeline will be as follows:

• December 2027 - First partial operation from Valenzuela to Malolos
• Fourth quarter of 2028 - Second partial operation from Malolos to Clark
• Fourth quarter of 2031 - Third partial operation from Clark-Solis, Alabang to Calamba
• Third quarter of 2033 - Full operation from Clark to Calamba

“Usually po ang mga amendments nito ay iyong mga timelines lang po at medyo may pag-aadjust din po ng kaunti sa budget,” Castro said.
