How Yamal’s teenage stats compare with Mbappe’s – Report

Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe

Few young footballers have made an impact at such an early age as Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, but Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe also established himself as a teenage sensation.

According to a report obtained from MSN on Thursday, a comparison of their club and international statistics as teenagers highlights the different ways the two players influenced games before turning 20.

Yamal made more appearances than Mbappe did during his teenage years, recording 191 games compared with the Frenchman’s 150.

However, Mbappe holds the advantage in goals, scoring 73 times as a teenager compared with Yamal’s 64.

Yamal has been more productive in creating goals, registering 69 assists to Mbappe’s 48. That gives the Barcelona youngster 133 total goal contributions, compared with 121 for Mbappe.

Mbappe, however, was more efficient in front of goal. He averaged a goal every 136.1 minutes, while Yamal averaged one every 221.4 minutes.

The Frenchman also recorded a goal or assist every 82.1 minutes, compared with Yamal’s 106.5 minutes.

Mbappe’s numbers included just one penalty goal, while Yamal had eight.

The comparison also reflects the different paths the two players took. Mbappe made his senior debut for Monaco at 16 and quickly became a key player during the club’s run to the Champions League semi-finals and Ligue 1 title in the 2016-17 season.

He moved to Paris Saint-Germain at 18 and went on to win another Ligue 1 title before becoming a World Cup winner with France in 2018, shortly before turning 20.

Yamal made his Barcelona debut even earlier, at 15, and subsequently became the youngest player to represent Spain at senior level.

He has already won major honours with Barcelona and played a significant role for Spain at international level.

Mbappe has also spoken publicly about Yamal’s emergence, urging people to focus on the teenager’s football rather than his personal life.

“You can see [Lamine] has passion for football and that’s the only thing he mustn’t lose,” Mbappe said in a 2025 interview with Jorge Valdano on Movistar.

“He’s a great football player, but in life he’s an 18-year-old kid.”

The statistics show that Mbappe was the more prolific teenage goalscorer, while Yamal’s figures point to greater chance creation and overall goal involvement.

Importantly, Yamal’s teenage record is still developing, giving him further opportunities to add to his numbers before turning 20.

Here’s how Yamal’s career stats for club and country stack up against a teenage Mbappe.
