Rupert Grint Sets New Adaptation Of 143-Year-Old Classic Ahead Of Harry Potter Return

Amanda Kay Oaks is a writer and lifelong book nerd. She has been writing about books on the internet for over 10 years, with prior bylines at Book Riot and ComicBook.com. Though she reads across most genres, Amanda Kay is particularly fond of romance, cozy fantasy, and books with strong female characters.
The actor best known for his portrayal of Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies is now preparing to step into another literary role. Rupert Grint, who portrayed Ron in all 8 of the original films, recently made headlines for his controversial decision to reprise the role on Broadway. Next year, he will play the adult Ron Weasley in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, returning to the character after 15 years. But now, fans have another performance to look forward to.
The actor has mostly taken on smaller roles in recent years, including a notable appearance in the music video for Ed Sheeran's "A Little More." But in the next few months, fans are going to be seeing plenty of Rupert Grint. Or in this case, hearing him. As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, Grint is narrating a new, serialized audiobook adaptation of Treasure Island. This approach will bring the 143-year-old book back to its serialized roots, but in podcast form.
The new audiobook adaptation of Treasure Island comes from Noiser, a U.K.-based podcast network best known for its history podcasts, including the Short History Of... series. The company has previously produced similar immersive audio adaptations of other classic novels, including Pride and Prejudice and several Sherlock Holmes stories. So a classic like Treasure Island, which was first released in serialized form in the 1800s, fits right into their repertoire.
Grint is far from the first well-known actor to work with Noiser, which has produced audiobooks starring Dame Julie Andrews and Hugh Bonneville. Their serialized audiobook productions are extremely popular, with over 50 million listens in 2025. Now, they are teaming up with Rupert Grint for a family-focused production of the swashbuckling story that's credited with shaping our modern ideas of pirates.
Rupert Grint will narrate the entirety of Treasure Island in this upcoming production, including voicing every character. Some audiobook productions go the full-cast route, using a variety of actors to voice each character. However, having one actor perform the entire audiobook, character voices and all, is a longtime tradition. In fact, Jeff Hays takes on the task in the wildly popular, Audible-exclusive Dungeon Crawler Carl audiobooks, and his portrayal of Princess Donut is legendary. For those used to seeing Grint in singular roles, it will be interesting to see what he does with a wide range of unique character voices.
Question 1 of 3
Noiser chose Rupert Grint for the role in part because he's well-known for portraying an iconic character from a modern classic YA series. But this time, rather than portraying a young wizard, Grint will step into a classic pirate tale full of an entirely different kind of adventure. The new Treasure Island adaptation from Noiser will begin airing on December 8. It will be available on most major podcast platforms, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify. New episodes will be released weekly until the story is complete, giving fans something to look forward to throughout the holiday season.
