Reduction of electricity tariff brackets for coded meters begins in New Valley

The Governor of the New Valley, Hanan Magdy, announced that the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company have approved a reduction in the tariff rate for “coded” electricity meters issued prior to January 2024.
The rate will be lowered from 275 piasters per kilowatt-hour to 192 piasters per kilowatt-hour—a reduction of 83 piasters per kilowatt-hour.
This reduction will take effect starting November 1, in response to requests from citizens and with the aim of easing their financial burdens.
The governor emphasized that this approval comes as part of ongoing coordination with the Ministry of Electricity and relevant authorities, aimed at streamlining procedures and providing further facilitation for citizens—with due regard for social considerations and the goal of easing the financial burden associated with electricity consumption.
The Head of the Electricity Sector in the New Valley, Yasser Omar, said that charging centers have begun receiving citizens who wish to adjust their billing tier via their meter-recharge cards.
He added that the necessary executive steps to implement the reduction are being closely monitored to ensure that eligible citizens receive the intended benefits.
