The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has issued subpoenas to members of the "Machong Chismisan" podcast following their remarks about Joshua "Josh" Aquino, the son of Kris Aquino.

According to the NBI, the members were asked to appear at different times before the bureau on October 20, Tuesday, to shed light on its investigation regarding alleged violations of the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons, in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

The podcast garnered flak over a now-deleted episode titled "Ang Pagbabalik Ni Kris Aquino," in which the hosts made disparaging remarks about Josh by comparing him with his younger brother, Bimby, and making derogatory remarks about his disability.

Following the backlash, "Machong Chismisan" took down the episode and apologized to the entire Aquino family.

The Pod Network also terminated its contract with the podcast.

According to Sam Nielsen's report on Super Radyo dzBB, two members have received their subpoenas.

NBI Director Melvin Matibag also reportedly said the podcast members' apology is not enough to erase criminal liability.

TV host Boy Abunda, who has been vocal about his support for Josh, has previously said that if Kris were to ask him, he would advise her to file charges against the alleged offenders.

In a post on Instagram, Kris said she opted not to release a statement in response to "what were irresponsible & uninformed opinions" as she didn't want to give them the "word war" they were expecting. — VDV, GMA News
