Free State primary school mourns three children killed in minibus crash

JCS Independent, a private Christian school in the Free State, is mourning the deaths of three primary school learners who died in a minibus collision with a truck in Sasolburg on Thursday,8 October.
The driver of the scholar transport, the school’s director, was also killed in the crash.

In a statement on their Facebook page, JCS Independent confirmed the tragic news of the fatal car crash that claimed the lives of three primary school learners, aged between 6 and 9.
The minibus driver, a 60-year-old man, has been referred to as the school director.
Other learners in the vehicle were transported to nearby medical facilities, where they were treated.
The crash happened on the R57 and R59 bridge in Sasolburg on Thursday afternoon. The driver of the truck survived the collision.
Circumstances surrounding the collision are under investigation. A case of culpable homicide has been opened at Sasolburg Police Station.
The school – which closed for the day – appealed to the public not to share any pictures or videos taken at the crash scene. It also pledged to provide counselling support to learners and staff.
