Man reported to have jumped from San Juanico Bridge found dead
TACLOBAN CITY — A 28-year-old man who was reported to have jumped from the San Juanico Bridge on Sunday was found dead Monday morning Sept. 14, in a river in Barangay Guintigian, Babatngon, Leyte, police said.
The body of the man, identified as alias “Poypoy,” a scrap buyer and resident of Barangay San Pedro, Sta. Rita, Samar, was discovered floating face down near the barangay port at 10:20 a.m. on Sept. 14.
Police said a fish cage caretaker, alias “Mar,” 20, discovered the body while traveling by motorboat to his fish cage.

Mar sought assistance from bystanders, who helped pull the body closer to the port. Responding personnel of the Babatngon Municipal Police Station later secured the area and conducted initial documentation.
The victim was identified by his live-in partner, alias “Lita,” who arrived at the scene shortly after the body was discovered.
Police said the victim’s identity was further confirmed by personnel of Tacloban City Police Station 3, who said he was the same man reported to have jumped from the San Juanico Bridge at about 5 a.m. on Sunday.
The discovery ended the search for the man, whose reported jump from the bridge prompted authorities to conduct search and retrieval efforts in the surrounding waters.

Police noted visible white-spotted discoloration on the victim’s skin when the body was recovered.
The Babatngon police requested assistance from the Scene of the Crime Operations (SOCO) team for further examination and documentation. Personnel of the Babatngon Rural Health Unit were also informed and asked to conduct a post-mortem examination.
