Lacson hits Cayetanos over LLDA budget hearing questions

Translate

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson on Tuesday criticized Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano and his sister, Sen. Pia Cayetano, for their line of questioning during a hearing on the Laguna Lake Development Authority’s proposed 2027 budget.

In a statement, Lacson said the Cayetano siblings ganged up on acting LLDA General Manager Leopoldo Parumog, questioning the agency’s “special interest” in Taguig City instead of focusing on its proposed budget.

“They took turns interrogating the hapless LLDA general manager with questions totally unrelated to the agency’s proposed 2027 budget as if it were a full-blown Senate inquiry in aid of legislation,” he said in a post on X.

During Monday’s hearing, the Cayetanos questioned LLDA officials for more than an hour, asking about the agency’s social media posts and allegedly selective inspections in Taguig City.

They also asked why other projects did not receive the same media coverage as the agency’s “blow-by-blow” updates in Taguig City.

Sen. Pia also questioned the agency about its inspections and investigations in Taguig, seemingly portraying the city as rife with wrongdoing.

Earlier this month, Lacson was among the first to raise concerns about continued illegal reclamation along the Taguig side of Laguna Lake.

An inspection team sent by Lacson released a 25-second video showing its members surveying the Taguig Lakeshore area. The video also showed garbage being dumped. — With a report from Martina Nieyandra Calica/INQUIRER.net trainee /das
