Star Trek's Officially Unveils Seven Of Nine Redesign With No Borg Implants

Star Trek has always been a show that doesn't shy away from introducing characters from all sorts of backgrounds within its vast universe. Whether that be beings from far-flung planets that we're yet to even see, or humans with complex paths into Starfleet or any of the other myriad organizations in the different shows, it's those additions that make it all feel so alive.

Of those, Seven of Nine (or Seven of Nine, Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix Zero One to give her full title) sticks out as one of the most interesting of them all. Now, her latest appearance is starkly different from anything we have seen to date, and it's actually quite a big deal for the wider lore as a whole.

Wizards of the Coast

In case you haven't watched too much Star Trek: Voyager, Seven of Nine is part of the crew of the USS Voyager from Season 4 onwards. Her background is far from normal though, as she comes with a bunch of Borg implants after she was assimilated by the nefarious cyborg collective when she was a young child, following an expedition taken with her scientist parents into the Delta Quadrant.

That assimilation makes her an incredibly useful asset to Starfleet in their ongoing conflicts with the Borg, as her vast knowledge of their infrastructure allows them to gain a slight advantage. It also gives her character a fascinating angle, as she tries to rediscover all the facets of her humanity along the way.

Now, she's set to appear as a card in the upcoming Star Trek Magic: The Gathering set, only this time, entirely without implants. The interesting thing here is that existing lore states that she was assimilated as a child, and her appearance on the card obviously has her as an adult.

She was essentially placed into a device known as a Maturation Chamber, forcing her to age more quickly (to make her useful), while simultaneously reconstructing her biology and neural pathways with Borg implants. It's therefore interesting to see her without those iconic additions here, and it's perhaps more of an aspirational vision of what might have been if she hadn't been captured.

Wizards of the Coast

The Star Trek MTG set is coming later this year, and it's set to be a much broader offering than the recent Hobbit Universes Beyond set that went down so well with fans. The chase cards this time around will undoubtedly be the ones that carry the real signatures of iconic actors like William Shatner, which will only be available in Collector Boosters. The global tabletop release date for Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek is November 13, 2026, with pre-release events running from November 6–12.
