TACLOBAN CITY — The Philippine Coast Guard has temporarily suspended voyages of vessels with a gross tonnage of 250 and below along the Northern Samar coast due to strong to gale-force winds from Super Typhoon Rosal (international name: Champi).

In an advisory issued on Wednesday, the Coast Guard said the suspension covers vessels operating in the municipalities of Laoang, Palapag, Pambujan, Mondragon and San Roque.

The Coast Guard implemented the measure after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued Gale Warning No. 2 by 5 a.m. on Wednesday.

It said the suspension aims to prevent maritime accidents and ensure the safety of passengers and crew amid potentially dangerous sea conditions, in accordance with Department Memorandum Circular No. 03-01, which provides guidelines on the movement of motorboats and vessels in the absence of a weather bulletin in a locality.

All affected vessel operators were advised to take necessary precautions and closely monitor weather updates, particularly warnings of strong to gale-force winds in their areas of operation.

The suspension will remain in effect until further notice. Voyages may resume only after weather and sea conditions improve, and the Coast Guard issues the appropriate advisory./coa
