KPK questions three individuals in visa extortion case

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned two private-sector individuals and a homemaker as witnesses in an alleged extortion case involving foreign nationals’ stay permits.

KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told reporters in Jakarta on Friday that investigators had scheduled questioning for THO and PAZ, both private-sector individuals, and OLV, a homemaker.

On Thursday (September 10), the KPK questioned WRM, an employee of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, as a witness in the case.

The case began with a sting operation into alleged corruption involving the processing of foreign nationals’ stay permits.

During the operation, Silmy Karim, who was then deputy minister of immigration and corrections, turned himself in to the KPK.

On June 4, 2026, the KPK named eight suspects in an alleged extortion case involving foreign nationals’ stay permits from 2022 to 2026.

The suspects included Silmy Karim, who served as immigration director general from 2023 to 2024, and Saffar Muhammad Godam, acting director general from 2024 to 2025.

The six others were West Java immigration chief Jaya Saputra, West Jakarta immigration chief Ronald Arman Abdullah, and officials Tessar Bayu Setyaji, Bagus Bramantyo, Juniadi Sri Priambudi and Gusti Benardiansyah.

The KPK suspects the defendants collected about 145.5 billion rupiah (US$8.3 million) through the alleged extortion scheme between 2022 and 2026.
