No decision yet on political pact for Melaka election, says Fahmi

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has yet to finalise any political pact for the upcoming Melaka state election, said its communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.

He said the coalition's Presidential Council had yet to make any official decision on the matter.

"So far, it has not been finalised, and at the PH Presidential Council level, no decision has been made yet—not yet," he told reporters after launching the 13th Malaysia Plan Public Discourse Conference: Direction and Challenges.

Fahmi was responding to questions on PH's political pacts ahead of the Melaka election, for which the Election Commission (EC) is scheduled to set the key dates tomorrow.

On Oct 3, PH election director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the coalition remained open to discussions if there was still room for negotiations with other parties.

"If not, we are also prepared to contest based on our existing capabilities and understanding.

"We are looking at the possibilities. Perhaps next week, or within a week or two, we will have a clearer picture. Sometimes, this is how political parties operate," he said.

He said the political landscape remained fluid, with parties seeking the best solutions and partners to secure the best outcome in the election.

On Sept 29, Amanah communications director Khalid Abdul Samad said PH would not partner Barisan Nasional (BN) in the upcoming 16th Melaka election.

He said PH had decided on the matter and remained open to working with any other party except BN and Perikatan Nasional (PN).
