KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 — A woman was killed while her sister and a motorcyclist were seriously injured after a lorry crashed into their broken-down car at Kilometre 284.4 of the North-South Expressway northbound near Nilai this morning.

Berita Harian reported that the incident occurred at about 9am, when the motorcyclist, who had stopped to help move the car, was also hit in the collision.

Nilai district police chief Superintendent Johari Yahya said the district traffic complaints counter received information about the accident from the Nilai district police operations room at 9.01am.

“Initial investigations found that the accident is believed to have occurred when a Perodua Axia driven by a 32-year-old woman was travelling from Melaka towards Perak.

“When it arrived at the scene, the Perodua Axia was believed to have broken down and stopped in the second lane from the left,” he said in a statement.

Johari said a 22-year-old man riding a Honda RS 150 arrived at the scene and tried to help the woman move the vehicle.

“Not long after that, a lorry driven by a 24-year-old man arrived at the scene and is believed to have failed to notice both the car and the motorcyclist.

“The lorry is believed to have crashed into the rear of the Perodua Axia and the motorcyclist who was providing assistance,” he was quoted as saying.

He said the Axia driver suffered serious head and body injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer.

“The passenger of the Perodua Axia, a 39-year-old woman, and the motorcyclist were seriously injured and both received treatment at the red zone of Hospital Tuanku Jaafar here,” he said.
