Luka Modric feels that Milan put in their best performance of the season when they defeated Inter 3-1 in the Derby della Madonnina on Saturday evening, thanking the supporters for providing an atmosphere that ‘helps you win even more’.

Goals from Christian Pulisic and Adrien Rabiot sent Milan into a two-goal lead after 10 minutes, but their deficit was halved by an Alessandro Bastoni header midway through the first half. Diego Moreira, who had set up the first two Milan goals, restored a two-goal cushion with an excellently-struck free-kick towards the end of the first half.

Modric speaks after Milan 3-1 Inter

Speaking to CBS Sports Golazo after full-time on Saturday, Modric described Milan’s derby victory as: “An amazing win, an amazing performance.

“From the first minute, I think this is maybe our best game of the season. Overall, we deserved the victory and we’re really happy after a disappointing result midweek against Bologna.”

Modric was asked how he helped Milan and especially their younger players bounce back after a disappointing defeat against Bologna earlier this week.

He said: “You have to be positive. You can’t moan a lot about the last game because you know the next game is coming quickly. It’s a big game and there’s no better opportunity than to prove yourself against Inter and we did. Unfortunately if we want to do something big, we can’t allow ourselves to lose these games like in Bologna.

“We are growing as a team, there are new ideas of playing. Sometimes there will be ups and downs but we have to try to have these downs as minimum as possible if we want to win titles.”

And asked for a comment on the atmosphere inside San Siro on Saturday, Modric said: “It was amazing. Ever since I came here, the atmosphere’s been incredible, every game but especially in these kinds of games, derby games. Tonight, from the warm-up, they were incredible and this type of atmosphere helps you win even more.”
