One of New York City’s most star-studded destinations during New York Fashion Week this year has been a new stateside outpost of a posh London hotspot.

The Twenty Two New York opened in Manhattan’s Union Square neighborhood last February and has quickly built up a reputation as one of the city’s most glamorous locales, with the hotel and private members club playing host to a number of stylish guests and parties.

Alo kicked off NYFW last month with an intimate dinner that brought out guests like Candice Swanepoel, Amelia Gray Hamlin and Winnie Harlow to celebrate the brand’s new bag collection, before the party made its way to Louisa’s, the Twenty Two’s exclusive ninth-floor nightclub.

Earlier this summer, Justin Bieber threw a party at the hotel for his SKYLRK fashion line, with wife Hailey Bieber, Tate McRae, Teyana Taylor and Kaia Gerber among the other stars in attendance. The Twenty Two has also hosted Met Gala after-parties, Donatella Versace’s Moda Operandi soirée and a recent Miu Miu takeover, with Chloë Sevigny and Coco Gauff among the VIP guests.

Tucked away on a nondescript block on East 16th Street, The Twenty Two took over the landmarked Margaret Louisa Home in 2025, keeping much of the original architecture of the property that was first commissioned by the Vanderbilt heiress as a residence for independent working women. Tapping BKSK architects and Child Studios, The Twenty Two restored the 1891 Neo-Romanesque building to its original charm, while recreating ground-floor stonework, crown molding and soaring archways that had been stripped away decades earlier. “The result feels like it belongs to New York’s own design language,” The Twenty Two co-founder Navid Mirtorabi tells THR.

The Twenty Two New York

The property bills itself as a “hideaway in the heart of Manhattan” and indeed, a recent visit revealed a quaint yet vibrant atmosphere, with managers who greet you by name and a series of dimly-lit hallways that reveal elegant dining spaces and intimate working and conversation nooks alike.

In addition to the private members spaces, The Twenty Two New York offers 76 rooms (including 17 suites) and the Mediterranean restaurant, Cafe Zaffri, on the ground floor, the latter of which is open to the public. Everything is impeccably curated and cultured, like a museum or gallery come to life. The vibe: moody and romantic, with a discernible energy in the air of new relationships formed and creative projects coming to life.

“The Twenty Two community brings together like-minded, creative people from London, New York, and beyond who understand taste, sophistication, and discretion instinctively,” Mirtorabi says, as if to confirm the feeling. “Paired with the Members Club, the hotel maintains a level of intimacy and privacy that’s rare to find, creating a refined, relaxed environment where high-profile guests can truly feel at ease.”

While the original London location of The Twenty Two has become a local hub for the likes of Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss and Idris Elba, Mirtorabi sees the New York location as a place for both residents from all across the city and visitors from around the world to gather. At 87,000 square feet, Twenty Two New York is nearly double the size of its UK sibling, and Mirtorabi says that offers more opportunities for programming and gathering, something that he hopes will become the Manhattan property’s signature.

“While the two properties share the same hospitality philosophy, we wanted each one to feel native to its city rather than a copy of the other,” he says. “London lives inside an Edwardian mansion in Mayfair. [It is] intimate, residential, and deeply tied to that neighborhood’s history.”

“New York,” he counters, “has always been a place people move to reinvent themselves and build community from scratch, often without family nearby,” he says. “This building’s original purpose was literally to support that. We’re continuing that spirit in a very different form, but the throughline is the same: independence, community, and a place to belong.”
